# Manager tasks

A manager task is a request for your input. It can ask for a review, a decision, verification or a manual action. Chief displays these requests in **You** within the project's **Tasks** panel. Agent [milestones](https://chiefisnext.com/docs/milestones) appear under **Chief**.

## Find what needs you

Open the project, go to **Tasks**, and select **You**. Expand a task to read its full request and any source milestone. A waiting milestone can point to the manager task blocking it. Read that context before replying.

| Kind | Useful response |
| --- | --- |
| Review | Feedback on the result and any required changes. |
| Decision | The chosen option and the reason or constraints Chief should use. |
| Verify | What you checked and the observed result. |
| Manual action | What you completed outside Chief, or what still prevents it. |

## Reply and resolve a request

1. Read the request and perform the check or action it asks for.
2. Add context in **Reply to Chief (optional)** so Chief can use the outcome.
3. Select **Done** to resolve it. If the task offers decision options, choosing one marks it done with that choice.
4. Return to the waiting milestone and check its updated status.

**Expected result:** the request leaves the open list, and your response is available to Chief. Resolving a manager task removes that prerequisite; remaining dependencies, relay readiness and usage limits still apply.

Use **Discuss** when you need a conversation first. It sends the task context and your reply to chat and leaves the manager task open. Finish the discussion, then explicitly resolve or dismiss the request.

## Dismiss or reopen

Use **Dismiss** when the request is no longer needed; include a note explaining why. Dismissing also clears that manager-task prerequisite for dependent work, so check the impact before doing it.

Open **Resolved** to find recently completed or dismissed requests. Use **Reopen** if more work or a decision is still needed. If an action fails, the card shows an error; your reply stays available for retry.

## When a milestone still waits

Read its dependency list and check for other open requests in **You**. Discuss the specific blocker with Chief if the request is unclear. Do not mark an unperformed review or manual step complete just to start an agent.
