Chief turns goals into milestones, runs work through agents on your machine, and reviews the results. You can manage work from another device while the relay and agents run on your computer.

Start here

Follow the quickstart to install and pair the relay, add a project, and approve your first milestone. You need a Chief account, a computer running the relay, and at least one installed and signed-in CLI agent.

Understand the work

  • Goals: tell Chief the outcome, priorities and constraints.
  • Milestones and definitions of done: review a proposal, approve work and verify the result.
  • Manager tasks: make decisions, review results and unblock work in You.
  • Auto mode: let Chief approve its own proposals within the limits you set.
  • Schedules: request work for a future time or a repeating cadence through project chat.

Choose agents and connect apps

  • Supported agents and switching: install and authenticate an agent, choose Chief's planning provider and the default worker, or override a proposal.
  • Public integrations: choose an assistant connection or a Discord connection.
  • MCP connector setup: connect an assistant to selected Chief projects using OAuth.
  • Discord: install the public app and understand ship logs, suggestions and approvals.

Recover when work stops

Use Troubleshooting for an offline relay, expired agent credentials, an unknown health check, failed or blocked tasks, usage limits, or missing connected projects. Each recovery path includes the expected result and the next step.

Read with an AI agent

Every page has a complete Markdown version: append .md to its URL, such as quickstart.md or docs.md. The llms.txt index lists every guide and its Markdown version. HTML includes the complete guide before JavaScript runs.
