Chief for Discord shares finished milestones with a server, answers project-status commands and collects suggestions for future work. Approvals happen privately in a DM with Chief, with a confirmation step. Work executes through your relay.

Install the public app

  1. Open the Chief for Discord integration page.
  2. Select Add Chief to Discord and choose the server you can install apps into.
  3. Review Discord's permission request and authorize the installation.

Expected result: Chief is installed in your selected server. Installation and sharing a Chief project are separate actions; installing the app alone does not expose all your projects.

Discover commands and project access

Run /chief help to see the app's current command guidance. /chief link starts Chief-account linking and lets you pick projects. A channel is connected with /chief setup; this requires Manage Server in Discord and write access to the Chief project. Follow the command's project selection and response, and verify the connected project before using the channel for updates.

If account linking or channel setup fails, read its error response and contact Support if needed. Confirm each connection step succeeds before expecting project updates.

Use a connected channel

  • /chief status reports where the connected project stands.
  • /chief shipped shares what shipped, and connected channels receive ship-log posts for completed milestones and a weekly ship log.
  • /chief suggest files a milestone suggestion in channels where suggestions are enabled. Include the objective and what done means.

People without a Chief account can read updates and suggest work where permitted. Their suggestions wait for a project member's approval and are never picked up by auto mode. In servers with more than fifty members, suggestions start disabled; the person connecting the channel can enable them.

Expected result: status and ship-log commands show the connected project's public channel information. A suggestion creates a proposal rather than immediately starting an agent.

Review proposals in a DM

For your linked Chief account, /chief waiting in a DM with Chief lists proposals needing you. Review the proposed work, choose Approve or Deny, and confirm. A server channel does not show approval buttons. You can also open the project in Chief and use its normal approval workflow.

Check the relay and agent readiness before approving execution. Use manager tasks in Chief for decisions or manual actions holding up work.

What your server can see

A connected channel sees milestone titles and status for its connected project. Objectives, definitions of done and other private planning context stay in Chief. Choose milestone titles with that audience in mind.

Chief responds to /chief commands and does not request message-content access to read server conversations. Changes are attributed to the linked Chief account and Discord in Chief's activity feed, rather than to a Discord nickname.

Disconnect or recover

Use /chief help for current account and channel controls. /chief unlink removes your account link; /chief setup remove:true disconnects a channel. Account unlinking and channel disconnection have different scopes, so verify the response names the connection you intended to remove.

If a project is unavailable, check the linked account, project access, channel selection and the owner's Allow connected apps setting. If approved work cannot run, follow Troubleshooting. Return to Public integrations to choose an assistant connection instead.
